Looking to plan the perfect golf trip to Wisconsin? Planning a buddies trip or a romantic golf getaway can be a full time job not to mention pressure filled to deliver a memorable experience. Below is an interview with Jason Kauflin, Owner from Wisconsin Golf Trips who shares some insider information about traveling to Wisconsin.
Please provide a brief company overview and why you enjoy being a golf tour operator?
Wisconsin Golf Trips has been providing custom itineraries since 2015. The company specializes in inbound packages to the high-profile courses in Wisconsin but also books select outbound destinations for its customer base. There is a deep satisfaction in handling all of the details for a group and leaving no stone unturned so they will have a great experience!
Why should traveling golfers use your service as opposed to going directly through a golf course?
Ease. Sure, if you are planning to stay at one resort and only golf there it probably makes sense for you to pick up the phone and call yourself. But if you are trying to piece together a number of courses or resorts into one trip, using a tour operator can make your life very easy. I can make all the tee times at the individual courses for you and book the lodging as well. When you show up to golf, everything is paid for and they are waiting for you.
What tips might you share with travelers as they start planning their golf trip? (general golf travel plans)
You can never plan too early. Research the destination you are considering to try and gain some perspective on how early you need to book to get the exact trip you might be considering.
What benefits can your business provide traveling golfers?
By handling all contracts and payments with the vendors, the customer has no one to deal with or call except for me. I am a one-stop shop and will collect payments directly from the group making that part of the process very seamless. I also believe with my experience that I can add a lot of value to the normal trip with recommendations on order of play, where to eat at night, and how to build in other activities besides golf if desired.
Any tips on working with you or golf travel operator?
Communicate. Don't assume that a golf tour operator can read your mind. The more emails and calls the better so everyone is on the same page at all time.
Choose a destination you specialize in and provide a typical or sample itinerary (golf and lodging, extra activites)?
A common request that I receive for Wisconsin is finding a way to package 'The Big Three' together. Those would be Erin Hills, Sand Valley and Destination Kohler (Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run). A typical itinerary for those that want to get the most out of their trip would be 1 night at Erin, 2 at Sand Valley and 3 in Kohler. Over those 6 or 7 days of golf a bucket-list seeking group could conceivably cross of 8 or 9 of the Top 100 public course in the United States.
How can traveling golfers get a hold of you to start the trip process?
An email is a great way to get the ball rolling, but no matter what is asked or told to me in an email I always want to talk to a group leader before proceeding. Not only are there too many options to consider that need to be discussed, but I also want to learn about the group I am dealing with as that will many times dictate how I structure an initial itinerary.
