I golfed Erin Hills the first week it opened a few years ago and was not a huge fan of the course. I think for two reasons. The hype was so huge that I was expecting Disneyland. The second was that I had not experienced a lot of Links Style courses previous to playing it.
I had the opportunity to play the course the first week it reopened after the announcement of the 2017 US Open.
The course has some maturing to do and workers are still feverishly working on the course but I fell in love with the course.
The new changes opened up the course, reduced the number of blind shots and removed the hoaky par three hole on the front nine.
Brilliant!
The course is walking now and my caddy who had come from Whistling Straits said the walk is harder at Erin Hills. So be prepared.
The fescue grass is thick so bring a few extra balls or your A game.
